Now…. call me old-fashioned (I am), but this is a beautiful thing in my book. Although I’m woodwork-oriented, I can’t help but be drawn to this. Some things are just correct! There’s nothing inside that pertains to what’s on the outer box, so I’m selling the empty box “as is”. I am sure it will appeal to a collector but neither would I be brokenhearted if it stays with me. It measures approx 6″ x 4 1/2″ x 3 3/34″ deep and bears a 1959 postmark. It’s thick, sturdy and has stood up well to the rigours of time and environment.
Wikipedia will tell you all you need to know about Alfred Herbert Ltd, but in essence, established in 1888 it was at one time the largest British Machine Tool builder.
